Frequently Asked Questions
1. When and where is the event?
TEDxClaremontColleges 2012 is happening on September 29th, 2012 at Garrison Theater (across from Honnold Library).
2. The event was free last year! Why are you charging me to attend this year?
Good question! If you remember back to last year’s event you’ll recall that it was an evening long and featured only a handful of speakers. This year the event lasts all day and will have 15 speakers. In order for us to put on an event of this magnitude, we had to charge to attend. We’re doing our absolute best to put on an event that will make your money seem more than worth it!
3. Is lunch included?
Yes! There will be refreshments before the event, during the morning conversation break, and during the afternoon conversation break as well.
3. Who are the speakers?
We will be releasing information about the speakers slowly over the next couple of months. Right now, you’ll just have to trust us when we say they’re very good. We’re flying in a couple speakers from across the country because we want to have the very best individuals standing in front of you sharing their ideas on the day of the event.
4. If I buy a ticket am I guaranteed a spot in the event?
Yes! Last year there was an application process because the venue was small and the event was free. Considering our larger venue this year we decided to switch to a first-come-first-serve system with registration. We expect to sell out well before the day of the event, so if you’re thinking about attending you should buy your ticket ASAP!
5. Are you trying to get a certain number of students from each campus at the event?
We are not holding ourselves to attaining certain quotas for getting students from each of the 7 schools. We are doing our best to get information out to all of the campuses as fairly and quickly as possible so everyone has an equal opportunity to buy a ticket. There will inevitably be inequities in how well some of the schools are represented at the event. We apologize for that and are doing everything we can to mitigate that possibility. For example, we are holding a set of our tickets in reserve to be released in September when all the students return from summer vacation and new freshmen have a chance to get involved.
6. Can I get a refund on my ticket?
All sales are final — sorry! If you end up not being able to attend, you can find somebody to transfer your ticket to. Contact samspurlin@gmail.com for more information if this happens to you.
